Hair extensions give you the length you desire without waiting years for it to grow. To ensure they stay looking their best there are ways you can look after them. Imagination Hair use high quality hair extensions to help you achieve the length you want. Here’s how to take care of your hair extensions.

Washing

Your stylist will be able to recommend products to wash your hair with. Avoid products with sulphur or high silicone as this can impact the attachments. Gently massage shampoo into your hair from root to tip making sure you don’t pull on the extensions. When applying conditioner leave the root area and leave it on for at least 5 minutes to nourish your hair extensions. After this time, rinse the product out thoroughly. Once per week try using a conditioning treatment such as Argan oil, coconut oil or Moroccan oil to keep them looking sleek. Refrain from combing or brushing whilst your hair is still wet.

Drying

Get as much moisture out of the hair by wrapping it in a towel. If you use a hairdryer then opt for a low to medium heat setting and position the hairdryer so that you blow the air down the hair away from the root area. If you leave it to dry naturally try plaiting your hair at night, it should be completely dry before you go to bed.

Brushing

There are loop or soft bristle brushes that can be used to brush your Hair Extensions a couple of times a day. Begin at the ends and work out the tangles from the bottom to the top. Use a wide tooth comb on the ends and completely avoid the area between the scalp and the attachment of the hair extensions. Don’t backcomb your roots. Avoid uncovered plastic bands when tying your hair up.

Styling

To go for different looks you might like to use curling irons, hot rollers or straighteners. These are fine to use with hair extensions but there are some precautions you need to take. When using these items keep them well away from the attachment. It’s important to note that whilst they are safe to use on hair extensions the will lessen the life-span of them. If you do use heat on your hair try the lowest setting and use a thermal protector and serum on it.

Maintenance

As your own hair continues to grow you will need maintenance roughly every 4 weeks to move the extensions back toward the scalp. Plus a salon treatment will have them looking smooth and shiny again to freshen up your look. Hair extensions look fabulous, however, require high maintenance.
