Posted on Apr 27th, 2017

There are a tonne of different kinds of extensions and not all of them will work with every hair type. These kinds include:

  1. WEAVES
  2. CLIP-IN EXTENSIONS
  3. RED HAIR
  4. HAIR EXTENSIONS
  5. TAPE EXTENSIONS
  6. HAIR SEWING
  7. FAKE HAIR
  8. FALLS
  9. MICRO BEAD EXTENSIONS

Getting longer and thicker hair is every girl’s dream. But with such a huge amount of choice out there, how can one figure out which type of Hair extension is right for you? There is a wide range of extensions from artificial to natural hair with different textures belonging from different regions of the world, and thousands of colours to pick from as well. Whoa… That seems like a massive task. Phew!

To make the right choice, let us give you some expert advice right from the hairstylists of Imagination Hair:

  • Clip-In / Flip-In
These are fun and non-committal but can look “fake” typically. Like your own hair, you can wash and style them. They do get worn out from frequent use. Choose real over synthetic if you want more durability with washing and styling.
  • Glue-In / Keratin Bond / Pre-bonded
Little keratin bonds are used to attach the hair at the tip of the extension by fusing with a small hot tool. These are extremely in demand and look great. It requires regular salon appointments for maintenance. Do not put conditioners, oils or any heated appliances near the connection, to prevent the bond from weakening and make your extensions come out much earlier than they should.
  • Sewn-In / Weave
Sewn-in extensions are best for Australian or African hair that is coarse, curly or thick hair. Client’s own, natural hair is sectioned and then the extensions are applied by being sewn into those tightly-braided sections.
  • Tape
If tape extensions are properly applied, cared for and made with good quality hair, these look absolutely phenomenal. They are connected using wide bonds similar to Sellotape. Your hair is placed and clamped around the strands. They do not look stringy and stranded after a few washes. These dreamy, luscious extensions will last for ages.
  • Micro-Bead / Micro-Ring
These kind of extensions are again hugely popular because they are pretty much damage-free. No glue, no heat, no tape and no sewing just simply gorgeous hair!

Single-strand micro-bead extensions are applied by clamping the little bead on the tip of the extension to your own hair. The connections are durable yet comfortable. If you want to dye your extensions frequently and use lots of products to heat style them then these are probably the best option.
